Do you feel stiff or sore between your shoulder blades? Are certain movements difficult? You may be suffering from limited mobility in your thoracic spine.

What Is The Thoracic Spine?

Your thoracic spine refers to 12 vertebrae that are in your mid back and are responsible for much of the movement of the spine. Mobility in your thoracic spine is also crucial for good posture and proper form during exercise. The muscles around your thoracic spine can become tight due to a sedentary lifestyle, especially if you spend considerable time hunched over a computer. Your thoracic spine becomes rounded forward, limiting rotation and extension movements. If your thoracic spine is unable to rotate correctly, your lumbar spine may try to compensate, causing low back injuries.

Thoracic Spine Pain Relief Exercises

Luckily, you can improve the range of motion in your thoracic spine by incorporating simple mobility exercises such as foam roller stretches, cat-cow stretch, and deep squat with thoracic rotation into your daily routine.
