If you thought dancing was just a fun pastime, you have been underestimating its value. Recently there has been a lot of hype around this old form of expression. Dancing, it turns out, is not only good for the soul it is also good for your health.
Dance can have numerous health benefits including improved strength, cardiovascular function, balance, decreased stress, improved immune system function and promote emotional well- being. Participating in dance classes can help improve your memory, focus and coordination.
Both partnered dance classes (swing, contra dance, tango) and non partnered dance classes (hip hop, ballet, Zumba) have health benefits, but often the partnered classes involve more social engagement and therefore more enjoyment and willingness to continue.
Movement in general helps with pain processing. It keeps your joints lubricated! Dance is being used to treat a variety of health issues including Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, mental health issues, balance deficits, and neurological decline. These programs are supported by a growing body of evidence praising the benefits of dancing.
