Body Dynamics Testimonials
See what our clients have to say about BDI.
My two arthroscopic surgeries for torn meniscus had very different results. The first one required a minimum of rehabilitation. The second one continued to swell months after surgery, and I was unable to fully bend my knee. A friend recommended that I see Ashley at Body Dynamics, and I am grateful for the comprehensive care that she provided. Curious about my repeated meniscus trouble, Ashley investigated my feet, ankles, and hips as possible culprits. As it turned out, one hip was hypermobile and the other was – whatever the opposite of that is Arming me with exercises for my hips as well as my knees, Ashley ensured that I made a full recovery. I was able to join my friends on the South Coast Path in Cornwall, England for a strenuous 7-day hike. As it turns out, I had another meniscal tear on the last day of our trip - the result of walking three miles on flat sand. I returned to BDI, where Jorge fixed me up in no time. BDI’s philosophy of educating patients pays off. I have had a couple of flare-ups since our trip, but I have been able to manage them on my own. Incorporating PT exercises into my yoga routine has been fun, and that has helped me practice each day at home. The result? I can hike with my friends, thanks to BDI.
Kris K.I learned the importance of hip health a hard and painful way. A debilitating ankle injury a few years ago led to even more painful challenges with my hips when I could finally resume walking. Eventually my mobility deteriorated to the point that even short walks and driving were unbearable. I was desperate for help when friends recommended Ashley and Body Dynamics. With her great care, I was not only able to recover, I’m now stronger than I have been in years. For me, one of the nicest options of care there is the ability to transition to appropriate group or individual exercise classes after PT. The fun and challenging group classes with Ashley, Grace, Jorge and Chip have been crucial to maintaining my recovery. I’m so grateful to this team for helping me find renewed energy with no pain, which allowed me to achieve my dream to hike Cornwall’s magnificent and challenging South Coast Trail with my friends the year I turned 60. Another bonus--my bone density has increased! Thank you Body Dynamics!
Linda L.After driving back and forth from Falls Church to Blacksburg for a year, I developed some lower back pain from sitting in the car for 4 hours. After searching and reading the great reviews, I visited Body Dynamics and was assessed by a Physical Therapist (Lisa) who was quickly able to determine where the issue was and what had to be done. After some sessions with Lisa, I proceeded to sign up for Personal Training with Sarah who was able to help me focus in on activation of muscles and develop the awareness to overcome the pain. In conjunction with the Personal Training, I started Myfascial Release Massage Therapy with Tracie who was able to loosen different areas that were tight and facilitate strengthening. As if being able to see three different practitioners under one roof wasn't enough, I was able to see Chip for Nutrition counseling. I would use the word "Holistic" to describe the approach where everyone is communicating and collaborating from different angles towards the same goal of healing and Body Dynamics is Holistic.
Pervaiz B.Outstanding care and individualized programs for wellness. While patient care is a priority, every effort is made to make the patient or client responsible for progress. Unlike any other physical therapy. Unique. I could not survive without them.
Nancy H.Suzanne, Ashley (PT) Chip and Andrea and this is everyone with whom I have studied at BD.-Each one are exceptionally gifted and unique in their craft and I owe my new health and outlook to them. The holistic philosophy that underlies this practice is what makes it so vital. Always working to help us move well and without pain in our our everyday activities... And clearly someone has skill for hiring and maintaining amazing staff!
Barbara K.Thank goodness for Body Dynamics! My back was killing me but thanks to a few PT sessions with Liz and the exercises she recommended I do at home, I feel like a new woman! BDI is really a one stop wellness organization and all of the staff I have met and the classes and workshops I have taken have been exceptional.
Sally C.Body Dynamics is the kind of integrated health services that we all hope we will find whenever we need Physical Therapy or we're looking for a range of health and fitness services. Rarely do I find the kind of personalized care and the teamwork between practitioners. My PT confers with my deep tissue massage practitioner and my fitness trainer to help maximize benefits and minimize any chance of injury. The atmosphere is always positive. The commitment to excellence is visible in every aspect of the very well equipped facility. I cannot recommend it enough!!!
CRWI met Liz this morning and she felt I had a muscle strain, not sciatica....which was good news! She gave me exercises to do so I am hoping for some pain relief. I think the visit was worth it. thank u for the suggestion.
Rosemary M.So grateful to be able to see an excellent physical therapist today as a walk-in Ortho Triage patient. Josh was terrific. He understood my problem, demonstrated compassion and skill, and clearly explained the issue and gave me a treatment plan. I have used Body Dynamics in the past and have always had nothing but excellent care and attention there. Truly top-notch.
Marsha TWI am home and healing well so far. I was actually just thinking of you all because there have been several times so far that I could tell the pre-op FitRX work really helped: When I first tried to pull myself up on the walker to the non-surgical leg, it happened easier than expected because my abs were strong! And a lot of the post-op stretching, especially in the quads, has been less painful because the muscles were in pretty good shape to start with! So, thank you and Chad and everyone who helped me prep for the surgery! I will be doing at home PT for the next two weeks. On the 13th, I have my post-op dr appt. I then have at least 2 weeks of PT at Advantage, which is close to my house and in-network for my insurance. At the rate I am going now, I do expect to be able to come back to a modified FitRX training in September. I'll be in touch as time gets closer! Thanks again for everything!
ShellyI enjoyed the class. I have a job that requires me to sit most of the day which causes my hip flexors to be tight. The stretching class was great to help me with this issue. I felt I had only been in class 30 minutes when the class ended. It was a good class for me.
VickieThe class was very good, and the teacher was very informative and helped describe our anatomy and how the exercises helped.
ShawnI have attended classes at BDI since its founding. These classes have helped me move freely and without pain throughout the years. In recent years I have concentrated on Pilates and Ballet Fundamentals classes. The Barre class introduced by Grace this year has been a wonderful addition to the BDI curriculum. IN addition to educating non-dancers about ballet, the class builds strength and aerobic capacity. It's fun!
Mary Ann NI began sessions with Jorge in October and finished days before everything shut down in March. He promised me that I would dance again --and I am doing line dancing. Still need to master more of Barbara's balance class before I build better bones with Grace. But I'm moving. Let's begin my feedback with the administrative side. As someone who was flexible about scheduling sessions with Jorge, I really appreciated the women at the front desk. They did their best to accommodate my schedule and were accurate (and gracious at all times). I liked receiving more than one reminder about an appointment. I needed them. I also appreciated having a backup available (Anna) the few times when Jorge wasn't able to attend a scheduled session. I cannot praise Jorge's skill as a therapist too much. His ability to relieve backaches and pains is amazing. What I especially appreciated was his ongoing question about every-day skills I was having trouble with and then addressing them on the spot. Examples included getting in and out of chairs, bed, car. For the first time in my life, I feel my age. But I feel a lot better than I did in the early Fall thanks to you and your staff. May you all be safe and healthy!
JKBYou don't know how much I wanted to dodge the work out time tonight. Knowing you check-in kept my car pointed to BDI even in the traffic. Thanks. I feel better after getting the workout in.
KathyI lay in the knocking, banging MRI tube and thought – this is why I do it. This is why I force time for Balance Class. This is why I work with Barbara. This is why I try. Because nobody escapes that eventual trip to the ER. Nobody is immune to what life hands you. And now I have the core strength and the body knowledge to endure – and hopefully heal – from whatever this is. And heal I did! Thank you, Barbara, and thank you, Body Dynamics!
Pru BI’m not an athlete; not a dancer. I’m an overweight, 56-year-old woman who sits at a desk all day. I started working with Barbara at Body Dynamics because I was ashamed of my limited cardio endurance. She was correcting my alignment and strengthening my core when I was suddenly stricken with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a nerve condition that felt like my feet were asleep – all the way up to my ribs. I was in the hospital for six days being treated; the physical therapist in the hospital was astonished that this fat old lady had enough core strength to walk unaided even though my legs were entirely numb. They moved me into restorative exercises that I rapidly outgrew because Barbara had prepared my body to endure whatever life threw at me. The neurologist said that GBS can take up to a year to resolve but that I’d progress much faster than that; she’d seen how quickly I was able to return to independence and balance. I took the credit, of course, but really my secret weapon was that Barbara had worked with me before I got sick. Now I’m almost back to normal, I’m back to working with Barbara and going to her balance class, and I’m not going to stop. I’ll never look like a waifish twenty-year-old, but sticking with Barbara means that as I age, I’m going to resist losing the health I’ve gained. I’m proud, I’m strong, and I’m grateful I found Barbara and Body Dynamics!
Pru BI worked with Josh for 10 months post-ACL reconstruction: fantastic service and quality advice. As an amateur athlete who needs the rush of endurance obstacle racing, Josh worked with me throughout the long recovery process to make sure I was safely meeting my goal of being able to return to 100% confidence in my knee, and being able to race. I'm happy to report I'm actually stronger than I was before blowing my knee out, and I attribute that to Josh.
Thomas GMy daughter (Libby Moir, L5), injured her hip at the gym last Fall. Despite seeing 3 different Hip doctors and doing several months of PT (up to three times a week), nothing worked - so we were planning for Summer surgery for a torn labrum. Then our Ortho told us to try you all - that it didn’t make sense why an 11-year olds hip couldn’t repair itself. Well, Libby’s therapist, Liz, was amazing and against all odds - the unending pain she had endured since last October was completely gone this Summer. NO SURGERY! Then, Liz worked patiently with Libby to help her regain strength in her hip and relieve some back pressure caused by favoring the other leg. Libby is almost 100% and FINALLY back at the gym. We have shared this story over and over - had we known the impact of choosing an in-network provider vs. finding the perfect provider - we would have found Body Dynamics last Fall.
KristenAs promised, I wanted to also tell you how much the BDI classes - particularly your Better Balance class and pilates, have helped me as I've dealt with a broken ankle, surgery, and recovery. As I was having to navigate airports and other crowds on crutches while in a cast on one (non-weight-bearing) leg, the exercises we've done in balance class to complete/repeat unusual movements while navigating in a crowd were amazingly helpful. Balance exercises and one-legged squats helped me to engage the right muscle groups while needing to stay off my right foot/ankle and to do things like pick up dropped items, reach for things, or even just balance while doing something like washing my hands!
Amy BergnerI first came to The Sports Medicine Team at Body Dynamics because I was having joint pain that was hindering my training and performance. In addition to alleviating the pain, they helped me understand the root of the issue and showed me how to strengthen weaker muscles I needed to be using in addition. They gave me home exercises and emphasized proper warm-ups and stretching techniques. I subsequently started training at Body Dynamics because the team understood my goals and further taught me how to train effectively on my own. They were very knowledgeable and great to work with and enabled me to both prevent and recover from injuries that could have sidelined me. Overall, the Sports Medicine team helped me better understand my body, my training, and my limits.
Aidan ByrneDear Jen, I have been wanting to share with you how very much I value the "zoom" BDI classes. Not that they fully replace the in-person classes, but they are a great way for me to enjoy exercising on a daily basis. Zoom offerings have allowed me to sample classes that previously might have been "out of range" timewise or distance-wise for me. So, thank you! I am totally engaged in the pilates classes taught by Lisa and Gayle. I love Chip's classes too. Who doesn't? Meanwhile, I am also taking two aerobic classes, which alert me to how much I need them. And, of course, the "GTS" classes are foundational ones for me. The "learning component" in the BDI classes continues to satisfy and motivate.. Tai Chi is opening a new window for me to explore another way of movement. I like the idea of coupling movement and meditation. Lots to learn.going forward. Again, thank you, and thanks to your colleagues.
Lois KhairallahBarb, I have enjoyed working virtually with you and look forward to continuing with this. This works well for me. I feel safer being in my own home currently. Plus, I do not have to wear a mask! My workouts are good and I feel that I am working really hard. It's great having someone watch and see and correct me as I work out at home. Thank you for this option.
Sandy QuillinToday, I had my first acupuncture appointment with Gira Patel since we've all been sheltering-in-place. Her observation was that, although my hips were a little tight (who's surprised by that??), my body seemed to be strong and that I seemed quite fit. I told her that I attributed that to the classes and services that BDI has been offering from the beginning of the stay-at-home orders. I also told her how extremely grateful I am that all of this has been made available to us. So, to all of you whose classes I'm taking/have taken and whose individual services I've been benefiting from via Zoom and, now, in some cases, in person, please know that I'm very, very grateful for your expertise, your direction, and your good company in these most peculiar circumstances. It's made an enormous difference for me. With much appreciation!
SandraGreat team that enabled me to be successful at getting healthy in my sixties! They know how to respect limits, push when needed, and not take it personally when I was a grumpy old man. I will miss you all!
Outstanding services provided by Gayle Cooper (Pilates instruction) and Tracey Hobbie (fascial massage). They are always present and on-time providing effective and thorough treatments that have helped reverse my aging!
The trainers are top notch hands down! Their philosophy is to do what is best for your body and not what will build the biggest muscles. Trainers take into account your unique capabilities and issues to tailor a work out and long-term plan. After a year with them, I've felt stronger and happier as a result.
