Pilates is a form of exercise developed in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates. It was originally used to rehabilitate injured soldiers returning from war and soon after was adopted by professional dancers to treat and prevent injuries. Today, Pilates is recognized for its ability to improve movement quality and sense of well-being among people of all ages and all levels of fitness.
